Shadows & Salt Air: The Forgotten Jews of Loango & the Echoes of the "Black Portuguese"
Shattered by Portugal's 1492 Jewish expulsion, survivors were banished to São Tomé's hellscape. Escaping inland, their descendants became the "Black Portuguese" of Loango: physically African, yet clinging to Jewish rites for centuries. Despised as outsiders, they endured – until Loango's slave coast devoured them. An estimated 100,000 of these unique souls were shipped to the Americas. Their haunting legacy: resilience forged in exile, erased by the abyss.
