āHas he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing.ā ā Surah Sad 38:5Ā š
š Surah Sad 38:5 ā Not a Revelation, But a Confession of Paganism
Arabic: Ų£ŁŲ¬ŁŲ¹ŁŁŁ ٱŁŪ”Ų£ŁŁŁŁŁŲ©Ł Ų„ŁŁŁŁ°ŁŁŲ§ ŁŁŁ°ŲŁŲÆŁŲ§Ū Ų„ŁŁŁŁ ŁŁŁ°Ų°ŁŲ§ ŁŁŲ“ŁŁŪ”Ų”Ł Ų¹ŁŲ¬ŁŲ§ŲØŁTransliteration: AjaŹæala al-Älihata ilÄhan wÄįø„idan inna hÄdhÄ lashayāun ŹæujÄbTranslation (Sahih International): Has he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing.
This verse captures the reaction of the Quraysh pagans, who were shocked that Muhammad would reduce their entire pantheon of 360 gods to just one deity. But the irony is that the god Muhammad choseāAllahāwas already a prominent idol in their midst. This isnāt monotheism in its purest form; it is selective paganism.
š Tafsir of Surah Sad 38:5 ā Ibn Kathir & Maududi
Maududi:Ā Recognizes the astonishment of the Quraysh but doesnāt acknowledge that Allah was already a god among many.
Ibn Kathir:Ā Admits the conflict with pagan traditions, yet fails to examine the pagan originĀ of the deity that Muhammad elevated.
š°ļø Pre-Islamic Arabia: 360 Idols and One "High God"
Islamic sources themselves confirm that pre-Islamic MeccaĀ was filled with idols. The KaabaĀ contained 360 idols, including:
HubalĀ ā the chief idol of Quraysh
al-Lat, al-Uzza, and ManatĀ ā the so-called daughters of Allah
AllahĀ ā already acknowledged as the āHigh Godā
āNarrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet said, 'May Allah curse the Jews and Christians for they built the places of worship at the graves of their Prophets.'" (Sahih al-Bukhari 435)
Yet, Muhammad kept the Kaaba, Black Stone, and pagan ritualsĀ such as circumambulation (Tawaf), merely redefining them under a new label.
ā”ļø Nine Bold Truths About Islam's Pagan Origins
ā«ļø Muslims deny being pagans, but many of their ritualsāstone kissing, Kaaba circling, crescent moon usageāpredate Islam.
ā«ļø Muhammad did not introduce a new god.Ā He simply chose Allah, a pre-existing idol, to be the only one worshipped.
ā«ļø There was no religious revolution.Ā The format of worship remained the same, but the focus was narrowed to one idol.
ā«ļø Even the Qur'an confirms the pre-existence of Allah:
āIf you asked them, āWho created the heavens and the earth?ā they would say, āAllah.āĀ ā ā Surah Luqman 31:25 š
ā«ļø Islamic rituals mirror pre-Islamic customs.Ā For example:
Tawaf (circling the Kaaba) š
Hajj pilgrimage rituals š§³
Fasting during Ramadan ā derived from pre-Islamic practices š
ā«ļø Hadith confirms pagan practiceĀ carried over:
āNarrated Aisha: The Prophet used to love to perform all his deeds starting from the right side...ā (Sahih al-Bukhari 168)
ā«ļø The Black Stone was revered before Islam.
āThe Black Stone came down from Paradise whiter than milk, but the sins of the sons of Adam made it black.ā ā (Jami` at-Tirmidhi 877)
ā«ļø The Kaaba was a pagan shrine.
āDuring the Jahiliyyah, the Quraysh used to worship at the Kaaba, performing the same rituals.ā ā (Ibn Ishaq, The Life of Muhammad)
ā«ļø Muhammad lived and died in the pagan frameworkĀ he claimed to challenge. His methods, places, objects, and symbols remained rooted in idolatrous traditions.
šļø Islam's Monotheism: Genuine or Just Rebranded Polytheism?
āHave you seen al-Lat and al-āUzza? And another, the third [goddess], Manat?āĀ ā Surah An-Najm 53:19-20 ā
This verse references the three goddessesĀ worshipped alongside Allah. Though the Qur'an later rejects them, it proves that the worship of Allah was not exclusiveĀ in Mecca until Muhammad's reforms.
āAnd when it is said to them, āProstrate to the Most Merciful,ā they say, āAnd what is the Most Merciful?āĀ ā Surah Al-Furqan 25:60
The Quraysh didnāt even recognize āAl-Rahman,ā revealing that Islamic names for Allah were not universally acceptedĀ even among Arabs.
š« False Monotheism is Still Idolatry
Reducing many idols to one idol does not equalĀ true monotheism. Islam preserved the objects, places, times, and practices of Arab paganism, only rebranding them under the banner of Allah.
āAnd most of them believe not in Allah except while they associate others with Him.āĀ ā Surah Yusuf 12:106 š
The Qur'an accuses the people of believing in AllahĀ while still committing shirk (idolatry). Yet Islam repeats this pattern by exalting a pagan idolĀ and retaining pagan rites.
⨠Conclusion: Islam's "One God" is a Legacy of Idolatry
When we dig beneath the surface, the evidence is clear:
Islam is not a new revelation ā it is a consolidation of pre-Islamic Arabian polytheism. šŖ
Allah was not introduced by Muhammad ā he was extractedĀ from a crowded pantheon.
Islamic rituals are not Abrahamic ā they are rebranded pagan traditions. š
The very verse Muslims use to prove monotheismĀ (Surah Sad 38:5) ironically confessesĀ the polytheistic origins of their faith.
āHas he made the gods [only] one God? Indeed, this is a curious thing.ā ā Qur'an 38:5Ā š¤
š Final Thought: Is Islam Really Monotheistic? Or Is It Paganism in Disguise?
š Look at the evidence. š Follow the origins. š Read the verses.
Islamic monotheism is not rooted in prophetic truth, but in pagan compromise. It is time for seekers of truth to reject idols in all formsāeven those masked in monotheism.
